What is preventing YOU from achieving YOUR goals?
Some time ago I decided to sign up with a HalalBucks business coach. I was at a point in my life where I was re-connecting with some of my old but abandoned business goals so from that perspective the business coaching offer came at the right point in time.
We started off easy with questions such as why did I join, what I expected to get out of it, what are my goals in life etc.
But then, the questions got tough. I was not able to simply give an answer off the top of my head. I had to really sit down and give it some serious thought.
For example, one of the questions that really got me thinking was: “What is preventing you from achieving your goals?” The answers I came up with were really revealing to me.
REASON 1:
From life coaching I had already learned that in most cases the thing that is preventing us from achieving our goals are certain beliefs we have adopted. For example, someone would like to be a university professor, but he has adopted belief that he is not good enough. So he does not even try. But if he actually tried, he could have done it.
So, I thought about my case along these lines as well and I concluded that the following belief is what is preventing me from achieving my business/financial goals: “If you want to get rich, you have to be a crook.”
In the interest of space I will not go into the details about how I adopted this belief. Let it suffice to say that my personal experience was such that everywhere I looked, both locally and globally, the successful business people were either simply crooks, or they were involved in haram businesses, or they were involved in questionable business practices etc. And I simply was not (and still am not) ready for such compromises. So I said to myself: “Dude, better be ‘poor’ and stay out of shady things rather than getting your hands dirty.” And that is how I all but abandoned all my business / financial dreams. BUT NOW, having experienced HalalBucks business coaching, and life coaching in general, I am all excited. I again see the light on the horizon, and I see that doing something BIG and halal is possible after all.
REASON 2:
The second obstacles I identified on my path of achieving my goals is that “I DON’T FEEL THE PAIN”. What I mean is that when you are forced into a corner, and you see no easy way out, you are FORCED to make a MAJOR move. So, if one did not have a job, or did not have money, he would feel this pain that would create this urgency to act. But alhamdulillah with my already US$ six-figure-income, I have a very easy life. And this comfort is something that I think was keeping me ‘asleep’.
Now, my life coaching and business coaching experience has awakened a sleeping LION inshaAllah.
Because this experience made me realize that I am actually using only 5% of my potential. And this fact - this knowledge that major portion of my potential is unused - is painful.
That is why again, after a long time, I started feeling the urgency to act.
And I did start acting alhamdulillah. More about that in my next blog inshaAllah.

So I guess the point is there are no outside forces preventing us from our goals. It is all in our heads, we are preventing ourselves from reaching our goals by the things we think. We are not victims of the world, we have the ability to change what we think of ourselves and our situations and make things different.
